National commission for social action (NaCSA), European Union and Bizclim
Tuesday concluded a two-day micro-finance assessment conference at the Bintumani
Hotel in Freetown.
The objective of the conference was to present to stakeholders the results of
the assessment of the microfinance sector in the country and recommendations for
further support towards its development.
Speaking to journalists, chairman of Sierra Leone association of microfinance
institutions Santigie Kanu said the network of microfinance providers and
practitioner's acts as an independent forum, in coordination with domestic and
international government bodies.
"Its mission is to support the development of professionally-sound
microfinance institutions in Sierra Leone through capacity-building activities,
liaison with the Government to improve the regulatory and policy environment,"
he said.

on behalf of the organisation said they have been giving technical assistance
support that ranges from in-house coaching, to carefully prepare local, regional
and international training programmes, study tours to other microfinance and
Central Banks.
He said they are establishing building blocks needed for the development of
an inclusive financial sector in Sierra Leone with microfinance as an integrated
part of the financial system.
Officer in charge of microfinance programme at NaCSA Francess Kondeh said
they have been delivering sustainable small-scale financial services to the poor
throughout the country by improving the institutional capacity and performance
of micro-finance service providers.
