China’s ambassador to Sierra Leone, Cheng Wenju, said electricity experts
will visit Sierra Leone to explore the possibility of developing thermal and
mini hydro power stations in the provinces. Briefing media practitioners at the
Chinese embassy in Freetown on Tuesday, Ambassador Wenju said discussions were
also being held with the Education ministry to introduce the teaching of Chinese
in Sierra Leone.
The emphasis of this “is that more Sierra Leoneans will learn more about
Chinese culture and come to understand why China is developing so fast.”
He lauded the Sierra Leonean government for promoting effective cooperation
with China and promised that there would soon be new developments in several
aspects of cooperation.
The year 2007 he said, had proven to be an extraordinary year for Sierra
Leone considering the successful elections.
He then also promised that two schools would be built by the Chinese
government in the northern province and Freetown respectively, as well as the
commencement of a 100-bed hospital with an anti-malaria center in the capital.
