Sierra Leone looking forward to their 2010 World Cup
campaign.
The Leone Stars, who are grouped alongside Nigeria, South Africa and
Equatorial Guinea, will start their qualifying campaign in Equatorial Guinea on
June 1, 2008.
Ahmed Kanu says he is happy that their first match will be
played away from the country, followed by two home matches.
After the
Equatorial Guinean encounter, Leone Stars will also face the Super Eagles of
Nigeria and Bafana Bafana boys at home in Freetown, before going for the away
match to South Africa.
Coach Kanu, who has already started his team
work-plan, believes there is great chance for his boys to succeed in this
group.
Kanu said he is focusing on how to draw active Sierra Leonean players
in Europe and other parts of the world to his team in order to get a formidable
team to face future opponents.
He further noted that with support from the
government and the Football Association, scouting for players will not be a
difficult task and that international friendly matches will help in selecting a
formidable squad.
“We can only make it from this squad if we start our
preparation earlier,” he said.
“With the present state of African football
you cannot rely on past records you must prepare and determine to face your
opponent.”
