The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Dr. Moses Kapu has received in audience the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone Cheng Wenju, with the aim of mapping out strategies for the development of the Industrial Fisheries Sector in the country.

Dr. Kapu told the Chinese Envoy that the timely involvement of the Chinese government would create added value to the development of the Fisheries Sector in Sierra Leone.
The Minister maintained that capacity building programs for Sierra Leoneans, and the setting-up of Chinese Fishing companies, as well as the provision of fishing gears to Artisanal fishermen would immensely promote the bi-lateral cooperation between the two countries.
The Fisheries Minister, Dr. Moses Kapu also called for support for the development of Aqua-Culture.
Ambassador Cheng Wenju informed Dr. Kapu of his country’s continued support to the socio-economic development of Sierra Leone.
He said the Chinese government seeks to establish a foreign office near parliament building.
The Chinese Ambassador Cheng Wenju disclosed, that the contract for the establishment of the complex was signed two years ago by the Chinese government and the erstwhile SLPP government.
The Director of Fisheries, Alhaji Mohamed Fuad Sheriff, also informed the Chinese Envoy of activities undertaken by the Ministry such as the recent contract under the Performance Based Resource Management Plan of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

China’s ambassador to Sierra Leone, Cheng Wenju, said electricity experts will visit Sierra Leone to explore the possibility of developing thermal and mini hydro power stations in the provinces. Briefing media practitioners at the Chinese embassy in Freetown on Tuesday, Ambassador Wenju said discussions were also being held with the Education ministry to introduce the teaching of Chinese in Sierra Leone.

LAGOS, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- China has signed an economic and technological cooperation agreement with Sierra Leone granting interest-free loans to the West African country, according to reports from Sierra Leone' capital of Freetown Friday.

The accord was signed by Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone Cheng Wenju and Zainab Hawa Bangura, Sierra Leone's minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation.

On behalf of Sierra Leone's President Ernest Bai Koroma and hisgovernment, Bangura expressed appreciation to the Chinese government, saying his country will use the loans properly on the basis of consultation to reconstruct Sierra Leone's economy.

Bangura said the Sierra Leone government has attached great importance to relations with China and firmly adheres to the one-China policy.

The agreement shows that the Chinese government highly values its relations with Sierra Leone, Cheng said.

It also shows the Chinese government's understanding of and support for Sierra Leone's efforts to vigorously rebuild the country's war-battered economy and society, Chen added.

Cheng expressed his hope that the two countries will work together to further push forward the friendly cooperative relationship between China and Sierra Leone.
